Professional Development Opportunities

The Cuyahoga County Board of DD provides the opportunities listed below as a service to those interested in professional development in the field of DD. Inclusion on this list does not constitute an endorsement of the training offered.


Non-Violent Physical Crisis Intervention

This program offers a safe, non-harmful behavior support system designed to help human service workers provide the best possible care and welfare to assaultive, disruptive and out-of-control individuals during the most violent moment. This training offers preventive strategies, as well as some basic physical interventions designed to enhance the participants’ ability to deal with an acting out individual.


Community-Based Care:

Maximizing System-Wide Efficiency and Treatment Effectiveness for People with Developmental Disabilities and Mental Illness through Collaborative, Coordinated and Data-Driven Innovations

This one-day event features Leon Evans and Gilbert Gonzales from the Center for Health Services in San Antonio, Texas. They will discuss effective ways of meeting the needs of those with multiple disabilities, particularly developmental disabilities and severe mental illness.

Summer Institute 2012

Understanding, Creating and Utilizing Positive Behavior Supports

An intensive two-week hands-on experience that includes supervised field-based practicum assignments, lectures, feedback sessions, reading and writing assignments, follow-up consultation and evaluations


10th Annual Milestones Autism/Asperger's Conference

The annual Milestones conference for parents and professionals features best practices in education, behavior and communication strategies proven effective for individuals with autism. Highlights of the conference include five Organization for Autism Research (OAR) sponsored national speakers presenting cutting-edge research; practical strategies for work, school, home and community; 70+ workshops for new diagnosis through adulthood;  professional development credits in multiple disciplines.
