University Hospitals
Intellectual Disabilities Outpatient Psychiatry Clinic
The Department of Psychiatry at University Hospitals operates an intellectual and developmental disabilities outpatient psychiatry clinic serving adults ages 18 and older. The clinic is staffed by psychiatrists, psychiatric fellows, residents, and advanced practice nurses. These staff have specialized knowledge and experience in working with adults with developmental disabilities who also have psychiatric needs and/or behavioral problems and their families and caregivers.
There are two clinic locations:

MetroHealth Medical Center
Comprehensive Care Clinic
The Comprehensive Care Clinic employs a medical home model that gives coordinated medical care to children and adults with developmental disabilities. Care is given across a variety of specialties and throughout the patient’s lifespan. In addition to physicians, nurses and other professionals, the clinic employees nurse care coordinators who work closely with families and their medical providers to help ensure that the patient has a coordinated plan of care and can manage any potential barriers to receiving that care.

Dentistry
Department of Dentistry at MetroHealth Medical Center
The department provides both routine dental services and those that may require general anesthesia. General anesthesia is sometimes needed for individuals who are otherwise not able to tolerate the process of dental work.

MetroHealth Dental Sedation Clinic
The Sedation Clinic, a partnership between MetroHealth and Cuyahoga DD, is a critically needed dental sedation clinic serving people with developmental disabilities. Located in Ohio City when fully operational 12 to 18 months from now, will see 30-40 patients per week. Cuyahoga DD contributed $25,000 to the sedation clinic’s development and has committed one full-time employee to support people with disabilities in scheduling appointments, coordinating other medical procedures that need to be done while the patient is under anesthesia, and helping patients navigate billing and Medicaid systems.
Children with Medical Handicaps Program
The Children with Medical Handicaps (CMH) Program is a health care program within the Ohio Department of Health. It links families of children with special health care needs to a network of quality providers and helps families obtain payments for services their child needs. CMH supports the Patient Centered Medical Home (PCMH) where primary care providers and families work together to improve health outcomes and quality of life for children and youth with special health care needs and their families.
How to enroll?
In order to enroll in CMH, a Medical Application Form must be submitted by a CMH-approved physician. Local health department public health nurses can provide a referral to start the enrollment process.
