Interested in becoming a Community Friend Volunteer?

Community Friend Volunteers provide friendship to an adult who has a developmental disability and is eligible for services through Cuyahoga DD.  Community Friend Volunteers usually share a common interest with the person they are paired with and enjoy spending time together out in the community. Activities might include recreation, sporting events, movies, taking a class together, dining out, visiting museums, and so much more.

Community Friend Volunteers are:

  • Understanding
  • Compassionate
  • Flexible and reliable
  • Patient
  • Willing to meet and learn about someone new who may or may not need extra supports
  • Able to model the value of inclusion of people with disabilities in all aspects of community life

A Community Friend Volunteer is expected to make a minimum commitment of one year and meet with his/her friend at least 2-3 hours per month.
