Adaptive Paddling: Voyager Canoe with Rec2Connect and Cleveland Metroparks Outdoor Recreation
To register, email Amber Baily of Rec2Connect at: amber@rec2connect.org Directions: Program at Wallace Lake. Meet at North Quarry Picnic Area Ages: 8 years & over Fee: $25 per person (All guests MUST register via Rec2Connect) Terrain/Distance: Paddling up to 1 mile in a flatwater environment Paddling the 18-seat Voyageur Canoe will require guests to be in close proximity to each other with 2-3 guests sitting on the same bench and others in front of and behind them. As we pilot adaptive programs on the Voyageur Canoe, guests must be comfortable being close to each other in the same boat. Guests must also be able to transfer into the boat with minimal assistance and have enough core strength to support themselves on a flat seat without back and side support. Limited options for back and side support may be available with sufficient notice if minimal sitting support is required to participate. Registration space is limited. If spaces do not fill, one caregiver per person will be permitted to participate alongside the individual with a disability at no additional cost. Space isn’t guaranteed for the additional person. Both participants and the additional person will be required to complete a waiver as well as wear a life jacket (that will be provided) while on the Voyager Canoe. If caregivers or family members want to guarantee a space for themselves, they must register each individual. This pilot program will help us continue to make this experience more adaptive friendly in the future. Feel free to call 216-341-1704 to discuss your disability related needs. The entire program will be spent outside, so all guests should come dressed to paddle. Bring a towel and extra set of clothes. Dry bags or Ziplock bags work well for items you choose to bring on the water with you; Cleveland Metroparks is not responsible for any items you bring on the water. Dress in non-cotton layers such as synthetic materials, fleece, wool, etc. Please bring a completed waiver and review the equipment list. Classes will begin promptly, so plan to arrive early
