
DSP-U Certificate for Highschoolers
DSP-U allows local high school junior and senior students to earn a certificate, build their resume, and explore future career opportunities to work with people with intellectual and developmental disabilities as a Direct Support Professional (DSP).
Cuyahoga DD, in partnership with the Ohio Alliance of Direct Support Professionals (OADSP), offers this certificate program for FREE.

What you will learn:
- Overview of intellectual and developmental disabilities
- History of service for people with developmental disabilities
- Ethics on the frontline
- Supporting health and safety
- Direct Support Professional as a teacher
- Individual service planning and self-determination
- Positive behavior supports and principles of positive intervention
- Unusual incidents, major unusual incidents, and incident reports
- Effective documentation
- Providing personal care with dignity

Responsibilities:
- Attendance is mandatory (with a one-day exception)
- Provide your own transportation (depart by 3 PM)
- Communicate if you are running late or are going to be absent
- Bring your own laptop, earbuds, and refillable water bottle
The day may end earlier depending on daily activities. Lunch will be provided. The deadline to register is Sunday, June 1.
